In fine weather, the Porterie welcomes walkers in search of serenity to Hildegarde's garden, which opens onto the clearing at the rear of the building.
Young and old alike can listen to the history of the Porterie, make their own herbarium, relax by the medicinal plants and discover treasures, listen to concerts and lectures.
From 2020, the site will become a place for adults to recharge their batteries and their spirits, and a factory of happy memories for the little ones, with games, books and workshops.
In the garden, discover the history of Hildegard, her relationship with Saint Bernard and the medicine she taught.
The whole garden is an ecological model.
Discover Hildegarde's 16 favourite plants, which were also once treated at the Joinville apothecary:
- drawings of the plants in academic plates, with usage
- and garden of simple plants
- brief presentation of the apothecary (a visit to Joinville is a must)
- map of the Saint Gall garden
- explanations of the differences between the medieval garden and the monastic garden.
All around the building, educational panels explain the emergency works, the restoration of the east façade, the history of the Cistercian movement and the history of La Crête.
