A compromise between the courtyard and garden of a private mansion, this area was designed by Parisian landscape architect Louis Benech to complement the façades of the Hôtel du Breuil de Saint-Germain. Preceded by topiary, the Renaissance and Classicist architecture stands next to a contemporary section supported by an ivy-clad fence.

The Maison des Lumières is the first museum in France dedicated to the philosopher and encyclopaedist Denis Diderot (1713-1784). Housed in a sixteenth- and eighteenth-century town house, the museum presents the life and work of the great man in the context of the Enlightenment movement.
