Hi, I'm Jean de Joinville, your guide for this tour.
Are you ready?
Yes, great, but before we start I'd like to tell you a bit about Joinville.
Joinville was founded in the 11th century, on the border between the Kingdom of France and the Holy Roman Empire. During the Renaissance, the town grew under the reign of the Dukes of Guise, who built the Château du Grand Jardin, the Hôpital Saint-Croix and the Auditoire.
The town was partially burnt down in 1544 by Charles V's troops. From then until the 18th century, the town was gradually rebuilt, with timber-framed houses and ashlar mansions. From the 19th century onwards, the town enjoyed a renaissance thanks to the art foundry industry, many examples of which can be seen in the town's parks.
