Fresque de Grégoire Romanet

Fresque de Grégoire Romanet

For Chaumont and its Jean Masson gymnasium, a true symbol of the CVB, Grégoire Romanet has come up with 690 balls, all different, which will cover one of the gymnasium's façades like wallpaper. On this large surface, it's a quasi-architectural reflection, where a motif (the round) repeated 690 times, but differently and at different scales, will create a rhythm and offer a playful reading. The round for its reference to games and sport (round, ball, balloon, medal, disc...) and its universal aspect in terms of the collective imagination (moon, sun, Earth, wheel, fruit...). In addition to the dynamic shapes, the colours will be used to reinforce the overall rhythm, in the image of the signage and sporting codes: stripes, markings, shirts, etc. Finally, the icing on the cake is the nocturnal appearance of the façade which, thanks to photoluminescent paint, will add a marvellous dimension to the project and new, more elliptical and dreamy readings. To produce these 690 balloons, the artist has imagined a collective production, sporting in essence, which will involve the residents of the town of Chaumont. Like the Atelier Baudelaire fresco, Grégoire Romanet's is a participatory work. In the same way as a match referee, Grégoire Romanet will define the rules for making the balls beforehand, and will then supervise the participants in graphic design workshops.
