The FORUM DIDEROT-LANGRES (an association under the 1901 law) was set up in 2001 to raise awareness of the work of the Enlightenment philosopher and encyclopaedist Denis Diderot (1713-1784) and its contemporary resonances. This project will help to enhance the image of Langres, his birthplace.
Since its inception, Le Forum has organised conferences, meetings, readings, symposia, exhibitions, concerts, shows and social events, developing partnerships with municipal cultural and heritage departments and local cultural associations. It applauded the opening of the Maison des Lumières, co-organised the "Rencontres Philosophiques de Langres" with the City of Langres from 2011 to 2021, and helped set up a dedicated association, "Autour des Rencontres Philosophiques de Langres" (ARPL), of which it is an ex-officio member.
In 2023, the Forum turned its attention to music at the time of Diderot and the Age of Enlightenment, creating the "Lumières en Musiques" Festival. From one edition to the next, in keeping with its essential role, the Forum offers concerts, baroque buffets, master classes, film screenings, heritage tours, meetings with schoolchildren... in addition to the RPL, making October in Langres a "Month of Enlightenment".
