It has been documented since the 17th century. More remote than most other fountains of a practical nature, it does not have the same place in local customs.

Work carried out in 1826 (the date is inscribed on the vault) created a vaulted conduit to collect the water and channel it to a rounded basin, which has now disappeared. From there, it fed a single-basin washhouse that was originally covered by a roof. The construction of the citadel in the mid-19th century and the Langres-Bonnelle railway station at the end of the century gave this fountain a new destiny. Now located equidistant between the two sites, it was used for several decades by soldiers from the garrison, who found it a more bucolic place to wash their clothes than inside the austere fortress!
