Fontaine de Troischamps

Fontaine de Troischamps

  • photo

The charming Troischamps fountain is actually part of a complex that once served as a fountain, a drinking trough for livestock and a wash-house for the women of the village, all protected by imposing stone bollards. The fountain is marked by a square stone building, reminiscent of antiquity. Four columns surmounted by Doric capitals stand on the coping. The roof is crowned with a cross. Similar fountains can be found in the nearby villages of Hortes and Marcilly-en-Bassigny. Water flows from the fountain into two troughs and then into the washhouse. The wash-house has a rectangular basin with two semi-circles. The entire complex was recently restored by former Mayor Pierre Girardot.
