The Child Fountain is located opposite the Town Hall, in the centre of a paved octagon. It consists of a stone basin, also octagonal, and a raised section in the centre, on which is placed the sculpture of a little angel. The angel, half-seated on an overturned jar, is holding the top of an oar with both hands. The water from the spring is distributed through a long spout set into the mouth of a zoomorphic spout, here in the shape of a griffin with a devil's head. Bathing in the high-quality water that gushes out above the village, Chauffourt has seen a number of fountains, washhouses and drinking troughs built throughout its history. In the 18th century, wooden pipes fed the fountain opposite the church. In the 19th century, these pipes were restored and the village saw the construction of two new fountains, soon to be supplemented in the 20th century by others distributing drinking water to the centre of the village. However, the 1950s and 1960s saw the disappearance of many of these fountains, which had become redundant following the installation of running water in homes. Some of them were transformed into flower boxes, helping to beautify the village. At the end of the 20th century, the town council decided to restore three of these fountains to their original function.
