With 250,000 hectares of forest covering almost half its surface area, Haute-Marne is often considered one of the most game-filled regions in France.
One of the greenest regions in France, Haute-Marne is home to wild boar, roe deer and red deer, much to the delight of hunting enthusiasts and gourmets alike.
6,400 hunters take out their licence in the département. 1,000 hunters from outside the region come here regularly to hunt.
Hunting ethics:
- Hunters must manage nature and preserve biodiversity, while taking into account the need to share space with other users of nature.
- Hunting is often misunderstood. Yet it plays a vital role in wildlife management, land-use planning and health surveillance.
Hunting is not just a leisure activity. It is much more than a sport or a passion.
Protecting nature and acting as a responsible citizen are the requirements that hunters must meet.
Hunting is closed on Wednesdays.
The Fédération des Chasseurs coordinates and defends hunting in the département. As an environmental protection association, it also carries out a wide range of actions in the field, including hedge planting, land-use planning, counting and environmental protection.
It represents hunting in administrative bodies and looks after territorial organisation.
