According to the local archives, the nave and bell tower of Saint-Vinard were rebuilt around 1774. Tradition attributes the foundation of the village to Saint-Vinard, in the middle of the 2nd century. Baptized by Pope Sixtus II, he suffered persecution at the hands of the Christians. Thrown into an inferno from which he miraculously emerged, he withdrew to this place. Legend has it that he came to pray near a fountain (perhaps the present-day Saint-Hubert fountain?) and that his prayers had the power to ward off foxes and wolves.
