The church of St Symphorien has the distinctive feature of being machicolated.
It is a fortified building (with a bretèche above the porch built later, in the 15th century) that served as a refuge for people during the troubled times of the Bassigny region. Polishing stones on the façade, near the doorway, attest to the practice of an ancient rite: sharpening or polishing tools against the religious building in the hope of divine protection.
