Eglise Saint-Rémi d'Heuilley-le-Grand

Eglise Saint-Rémi d'Heuilley-le-Grand

The church of Saint-Remi was ruined in the 15th century and sacked by the Croats in 1639. The 15th-century choir appears to have survived, but was rebuilt in the 16th century. The bell tower bears the date 1727 (on the tympanum of the west portal in a sculpted medallion), which must also be the period when the nave was built. The church at Heuilley-le-Grand has an elongated plan. The three-span nave has three ceilinged bays and is preceded by a tower-porch. This is crowned by a polygonal zinc spire. It is flanked on the south side by a small annexed sacristy with a shed roof covered in mechanical tiles. The single-bay rib-vaulted choir ends in a flat chevet against which the pavilion-roofed sacristy is built.
