EGLISE SAINT-REMI DE MERTRUD

EGLISE SAINT-REMI DE MERTRUD

The church at Mertrud was erected at the request of the village's inhabitants on 10 July 1781. The inhabitants petitioned the king to be authorised to sell their wood reserve in order to "restore their bell tower and church, which are in a very poor state and half too small". The wood was cut and the work authorised, and the estimate was drawn up on 6 August 1783 by "Sieur Durand architecte". In 1784, the inhabitants requested that the church be completely rebuilt on a more convenient site. Once again, the request was granted and the work was awarded to Loulot, a contractor from Dommartin le Saint Père.
