The church in Torcenay was the seat of a parish administered by the bishop of Langres. The church of Saint-Martin de Torcenay was rebuilt in 1842 according to an estimate by the architect Paul Péchiné dated March 1841. The work, carried out by the contractor Deblut from Rolampont, was accepted in March 1844 and the church was consecrated in 1847. In his estimate, Péchiné specified that the elevated parts of the nave, tower and chapel of the old church would be demolished and that the foundations would remain to support the columns and sacristy walls of the new building. The choir vault was to be carefully dismantled and reassembled in the new choir. The ashlar for the steps, columns and pedestals was to come from the quarries at Noidant-le-Châtenoy and Bugnières for the capitals and tympana of the bays. Everything else had to come from local quarries.

The church of Saint-Martin has an elongated plan. The nave has three naves, covered by a single roof, with four bays: the first bay of the north aisle supports the bell tower crowned by a polygonal slate spire. The nave is followed by a transept and a choir consisting of a straight bay and a three-sided apse covered by a six-quarter rib vault.
