Around 670, St Berchaire was looking for a place to build a monastery. He found a favourable site in Lutosa. With the support of Bishop St. Léger, he obtained permission from King Childeric to build a basilica dedicated to St. Martin.

St. Martin's church houses a 13th-century stained glass window, the oldest in the département.
