Saint-Gilbert church dates from the end of the 18th century, 1762 to be precise, as indicated by the inscription on each of the lintels of the entrance door and the door to the bell tower. Prior to this, Mouilleron had no place of worship, and depended on the neighbouring village of Musseau. The building has a single nave, flanked to the south by a vestry with a shed roof, a single-span choir and a bell tower crowned by a polygonal slate-roofed spire.
