A slight climb up the Rue de la Fontaine au Loup reveals the hillside church of Notre-Dame de la Nativité. It was once a branch of the Chalancey church. However, in the 17th century, the church at Musseau was made a parish church, and the church at Chalancey became a branch of Musseau, although it was always served by the vicar of Villemervry, which depended on Grancey. Since the Revolution, the church of Chalancey has been a branch of that of Lamargelle-aux-Bois. At the end of the Revolution, the old church dating from the end of the 12th century appeared to be impractical: "the choir and sacristy are absolutely like a sort of extremely dark and damp vault, only receiving light through two openings more like dripstones than windows". Nicolas Maîtrot, a building contractor in Marey-sur-Tille (Côte d'Or), produced a quotation for 4,287.03 francs to widen the choir to three sides and align it with the nave, open suitable windows and rebuild the sacristy as an extension of the choir to the east. The work was completed in full in 1828 by Claude Monniot in Marey-sur-Tille, at a slight discount, and was handed over in August 1830.

In 1850, the small wooden bell tower was in poor condition and needed to be rebuilt. An estimate was submitted by Chaumont architect Pierre Gaullet for 2365.68 francs, including the reconstruction of "a high stone spire", the entire façade and the slate roof. Accepted in October 1850, this is the facade that can still be seen today, with a commemorative stone at the bottom of the right foot on the left of the entrance door: "POSEE PAR M.RAMAGET ADJOINT DE CHALMESSIN, LE 4 JUIN 1850". The church has a single nave with two bays covered by false cross vaults, a tower-porch crowned by a square slate-roofed spire, a choir consisting of a right-hand bay and a three-sided apse. The cemetery wall, which had been in ruins since the turn of the century, was rebuilt in 1896.
