The church of Saint-Félix was once a place of pilgrimage because of an ancient cult featuring two symbolic elements: the snake and water. According to legend, a snake came to suck at the breast of Saint-Félix's mother, who was asleep beside a fountain. Interceding with heaven, she obtained the disappearance of reptiles from the area. The soil of the cemetery in which this woman would be buried was said to keep vipers away. Pilgrims were careful to take a little of it and sprinkle it over the places they wished to protect.
