Eglise Saint-Denis de Lavilleneuve

  • photo

The church of Lavilleneuve collected the large tithes of the abbey of Morimond, which held the seigneury there. A keystone in the church bears the arms of Morimond Abbey and two others those of the King of France, who also had seigneurial rights. The Latin cross plan of the building dates from the first half of the 16th century. The sacristy and staircase leading to the bell tower were built in 1750, the bell tower spire in 1773, and the nave windows in 1785. The single nave has three bays, the last of which is topped by a small bell tower crowned with a polygonal slate-roofed spire. The choir consists of a straight bay and a three-sided apse, vaulted by a sexpartite ribbed vault with radiating quarters.
