EGLISE NOTRE-DAME-EN-SON-ASSOMPTION DE BEAUCHARMOY

EGLISE NOTRE-DAME-EN-SON-ASSOMPTION DE BEAUCHARMOY

Beaucharmoy church is an elongated building. Its nave, with a single panelled nave, is followed by a rib-vaulted fore-choir bay. This bay comprises a central section topped by the bell tower crowned with a polygonal slate spire and, on the south side, a chapel with a hagioscope. The single-bay, panelled chancel ends in a flat chevet and could date from the 12th century, according to the two surviving columns inside. The chevet wall is pierced by a Eucharistic cupboard. The bell tower bay and nave date mainly from the 16th century. The sacristy with its shed roof backs onto the north wall of the choir. The angled staircase leading to the bell tower is located on the reverse side of the west facade. The walls are rendered and the bays and buttresses are made of sandstone ashlar.
