The seigneury of Champigny belonged to the prior of Varennes, who collected the tithes of the parish since the donation made in 1095 by Henri de Laferté. The church of Notre-Dame-en-son-Assomption was built during two periods. The choir was built in the 16th century, while the nave and bell tower were added in 1728 (date inscribed on the portal), possibly following the fire that devastated the village in 1714. Today, Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption church is an elongated building. Its single nave is covered by a false vault with a depressed arch. It is preceded by a bell tower crowned by a square slate spire. The two-bay rib-vaulted choir ends in a flat chevet. The sacristy is attached to the chevet. The western portal is in ashlar and the rest of the building is rendered.
