Cross from the 19th century.
Memorial to Mr Lambert who died in his pit.
This cross was originally located further away in the woods, and was moved to be restored in the years 2000-2010.
A marl pit is the result of the exploitation of marl, soft chalk, which was used to improve farmland. It was from the 19th century onwards that the exploitation of marl pits became intensive. Marling increased the pH of the soil and improved cereal productivity.
