Cemetery cross erected in 1806 "in devotion to François Pittolet and Nicole Flocard, his wife". The history of this family and the probable reason for their "investment" is original. The couple married in Aubigny on 8 February 1790. Sixteen years later, they had still not managed to have a child... which, unfortunately, they never did. The lack of offspring was catastrophic at the time - how could they run the vineyards without sons and sons-in-law? François and Nicole (also called Colette) died within a few months of each other, on 10 November 1851 and 29 March 1852, aged 88 and 90. The witnesses to their deaths were their nephews...
