Founded in 1997 on the initiative of the French Professional Basket Makers’ Union, the Brotherhood of the Noble Wicker Craftspeople was officially named on 4 July 1998, during its first chapter meeting at the basketry festival in Montlandon (Haute-Marne), with the following patron organisations: the Noble Brotherhood of Langres Cheese Tasters and the Brotherhood of the Jewels of the Woods – Champagne Truffles in Chaumont. As a guild, the Brotherhood of the Noble Wicker Weavers has set itself the task of raising appreciation for the profession and of publicising and promoting wickerwork made in France: its quality, the result of a time-honoured tradition, remains unrivalled thanks to the material used and the craftsmanship of the basket weavers who create it. The Confrérie des Façonneurs du Noble Osier has several branches in Touraine, Haute-Marne and the Oise, thereby helping to promote wickerwork throughout France.
