This column, erected by the Count of Pommeroy, has marked the boundary between the two communes of Longeau and Percey-le-Pautel since 1845. Bordering the old royal road from Langres to Besançon, the stele commemorates the fighting that took place here at dusk on 13 January 1814, when a detachment of the imperial guard repelled the Bavarians on the heels of Napoleon 1st. It is thought that the battle delayed the surrender of the stronghold of Langres by three days. Since 9 September 2006, the restored column has been topped by a stone eagle similar to the one that crowned it until the end of the 19th century.
