Jean Claude Bavoux (1675-1741) had the chapel of Saint Claude built at his own expense, in the centre of the village of La Rochelle.
He chose this chapel as the burial place for himself and his family.
During the Revolution in 1793, the chapel was demolished, leaving only the bell tower standing and a small cemetery surrounding it.
It was rebuilt in 1846 by Count Eusèbe de Terrier-Santans and his mother, the Marquise.
The parish priest of Laître used to say mass there once a week, usually on Mondays.
It was blessed on 17 September 1846.
