Chapelle de l'Assomption-de-Notre-Dame de Voisey

Chapelle de l'Assomption-de-Notre-Dame de Voisey

  • photo

The priory of Voisey was founded in the 12th century by the Sire of Jonvelle and was attached to the Order of Cluny. The chapel was mentioned in 1691 and 1791. The doorway appears to have been made from reused stone, so the date of 1755 cannot be taken as the date of construction. The chapel is rectangular in shape and comprises two rib-vaulted bays. The semi-circular doorway is moulded and decorated with a coat of arms bearing the date 1755 and the inscription Ave Maria. Above, a broken bay has been bricked up and covered with engraved decoration, which has now been hammered out.
