The presence of a priory and hospital is attested to as early as the 9th century. In the 13th century, the church became a parish church serving the south-eastern part of the town. In the 14th century, the wool-weavers' and stone-cutters' guilds moved to Saint-Amâtre, testifying to the district's artisanal character.
Disused at the time of the French Revolution, this monument, which now houses the Hôtel du Cheval Blanc, retains some traces of its former use: round-headed windows, fluted pilasters, gargoyles, etc.
