Following the redevelopment of the boulevard De Lattre in 2002, the old 13th-century rampart was uncovered and a few metres of it were preserved.
Until the end of the 19th century, this wall marked the southern boundary of the town. The section between what is now the Porte des Moulins and the Tour de Navarre was handed over by the Génie Militaire in 1886. A few years later, the town destroyed these fortifications and filled in their ditches to build an imposing school, the buildings of which can still be seen (right).
