Originally, in 1868, it was simply a drinking trough for the village animals and a covered wash-house used by the Courcelles-sur-Aujon washerwomen, who used to have to walk down to the Aujon river. Most of the lime trees planted around the Sainte-Anne chapel were felled for its construction. Today, the wash house is home to the distillery.
