Welcome to Wassy! Now you're ready to discover this small town, with its monuments, treasures and curiosities. Its architectural heritage is marked by its past as an ancient fortified town, by its administrative past as a sub-prefecture of Haute-Marne until 1926, and by the iron industry that developed there very early on.
During the Renaissance, cloth merchants returning from the fairs in Champagne spread the ideas of the Reformation, which had just arrived in France. As a result, a major Protestant centre developed in Wassy, just a few kilometres from Joinville, the stronghold of Duke François de Guide, a fierce defender of the Catholic religion. It was against this backdrop that, on 1 March 1562, the infamous massacre of Protestants took place in a barn in the town...

This 3.1 km route is the longer. It follows the short route through old Wassy, Place Marie-Stuart, Notre-Dame church, Saint-Charles hospital, Tour du dôme... and continues on to the Parc des Promenades to admire its cast-iron art.
