A loop through peaceful valleys, deep forests and local legends:
Departing from Varennes-sur-Amance, this 14.5km walk (approximately 3 hours' walk) offers a fine balance between moderate effort and heritage discovery. The route begins with a descent to the Saint-Gengoulph chapel, before crossing woods, plains and well-marked forest paths (GR7 and yellow markings). Along the way, you'll come across the old wash-house of a hamlet of 50 souls that has now disappeared, near the Bouillevau farm, fountains, remarkable trees and a beautiful panorama of the Amance valley from the D269 and the "Plubel" cross. The chapel, church and birthplace of writer Marcel Arland add a cultural touch to the walk. Not forgetting the legend of Saint Gengoulph, a local figure whose story combines chivalry, treachery and miracles. This is a walk for regular walkers, ideal for combining physical activity, nature and heritage in a lively, undulating setting.
