Between industrial heritage and unspoilt nature:
This 10.5km trail from Thonnance-les-Moulins plunges you into the heart of the rolling countryside and the metallurgical history of the Haute-Marne. It takes just 2.5 hours to complete, and combines sections of forest, grassy paths and old railway tracks. You'll walk past the former Forges de Marie site, testimony to the area's rich steelmaking past, before reaching the Annonville and Thonnance woods. A gradual climb through the forest offers fine views over the countryside, including as far as the Lorraine Cross at Colombey on a clear day. The Verlot valley, peaceful and green, contrasts pleasantly with the rigour of the old industrial structures. This signposted route, which alternates between historical discovery and contact with nature, is ideal for motivated walkers looking for a complete itinerary with no great technical difficulties, but with a wide range of atmospheres.
