The 8th stage of the Grande Boucle on 5 July 1974 was divided into two half-stages: Châlons-sur-Marne / Chaumont 136 km then Chaumont / Besançon 152 km, for a total distance of 288 km. This 1974 Tour de France was marked by the great comeback of the popular Raymond Poulidor, who finished 2nd in the Grande Boucle, 8'4" behind the famous Eddy Merckx, who would go on to win his 5th and final victory, depriving Raymond Poulidor of his first.
For a stage that is 100% Haute-Marne, we suggest you start from Lac du Der.
The route is then reduced to 152 km with a total ascent of 1,150 m.
Stage 1: Lac du Der / Chaumont - 77 km - 560 m ascent
Stage2: Chaumont / Grenant - 75 km - 600 m ascent.
