The history of Montier-en-Der began in 672 with the arrival of the monk Berchaire from Hautvillers. He founded an abbey in the Der forest. The monastery grew from the 7th to the 9th centuries. Abbot Adson undertook the reconstruction of the church in the 10th century, and it was consecrated in 998 under the name of St Peter and St Paul. The abbey was to set the pace for the life of the commune for more than 10 centuries...
