Typical villages, wooded valleys and challenging climbs:
This 14 km loop (allow around 4 hours) is a varied route, rich in heritage discoveries and contrasting terrain. Starting from Maatz, the route gradually climbs towards the Ferme du Soc, passing through dry grassland renowned for its orchids and offering a fine view of the Vallon de la Resaigne.
After a foray into the Bois de l'Homme Mort and a descent into the Combe Régnier, the path winds between old railway lines, minor roads, grassy paths and river crossings. You then reach Grandchamp, then Rivières-le-Bois and its 220 hectares of forest, before tackling a more sustained climb leading to the church of Saint-Broingt-le-Bois.
The route is demanding in places, but well-paced, punctuated by villages with character, ancient fountains, churches, crosses and calvaries. Perfect for walkers who like to combine heritage, nature and measured effort.
