State forest and endurance on the heights of Brottes:
Starting in Brottes, this 19km route takes you into the heart of the vast Corgebin state forest, the closest to Chaumont. For experienced hikers only, the route alternates between forest paths, climbs through undergrowth and long crossings over limestone plateaus. Beech trees dominate the landscape, accompanied by oaks, hornbeams and maples, offering a remarkable diversity of vegetation. The yellow markings guide walkers over varied terrain that is often technical, but always accessible to those seeking distance and raw nature. The trail runs alongside the Fontaine Sainte-Libère, an ancient miraculous spring, and passes through areas rich in wildlife: roe deer, wild boar and squirrels are frequently seen. There are several stopping places along the way where you can take a well-earned break. It takes around 5 hours to complete this demanding loop, which is ideal for combining physical effort with forest immersion and a breath of fresh air away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
As its name suggests, this is the longest of the 3 circuits in the Corgebin forest.
ATTENTION: from 9 to 27 March 2026, the ONF will be cutting down diseased trees to make the walk safer for hikers. The ONF is therefore calling for caution and vigilance.
