A bucolic loop between plateau, forest and Meuse valleys:
Starting in Gonaincourt, this 10.5km loop offers a fine balance between moderate effort, immersion in the Bassigny landscape and discovery of the local heritage. The route first climbs the "Chemin de la Montagne" to reach the plateau, offering sweeping views over the Meuse valley. The route then winds through woodland and farmland, crossing the former Huot de Goncourt estate, before descending gently to the chapel of Saint-Roch, a pleasant shady stop-off point. In the second part, the path runs alongside the Ruisseau Saint-Jean and returns quietly to the starting point via meadows and the railway line. Marked out in green and yellow, this varied route (2h45 on foot) is ideal for occasional to regular walkers who want to combine active walking, soothing nature and traces of literary history. A natural interlude to be enjoyed at the leisurely pace of the Haute-Marne.
