Discover Châteauvillain through an original tour combining literature, local history and the heritage of the lords.
This walk will first take you in the footsteps of Simone de Beauvoir, a major figure in French literature, who used to spend her childhood holidays in Châteauvillain until the age of 14, in a family home that you can discover from the outside. This is an opportunity to recall her memories of the village, which she recounts in her famous book Mémoires d'une jeune fille rangée.
The tour continues with a visit to one of the village's most emblematic monuments: the Châteauvillain dovecote. Formerly an outbuilding of the château, this exceptional building is one of the largest dovecotes in France. You can go inside to admire its many bolts and discover the role of this building, once reserved for the lords, as a symbol of power and privilege under the Ancien Régime.
A visit that combines intimate stories and great history, at the heart of Châteauvillain's heritage.
