"Tous les Matins du Monde is a novel written by Pascal Quignard and published in 1991.

An imaginary biography of a real historical musician from the 17th century, Jean de Sainte-Colombe and his pupil Marin Marais, who is better known than his master. Bass viol music, highly prized during the "Grand Siècle", plays a key role.

Summary In the spring of 1650, Madame de Sainte-Colombe died, leaving her husband alone with their two young daughters, Madeleine and Toinette. To increase their income, Monsieur de Sainte-Colombe gave viola da gamba lessons. He immersed himself in music to forget the death of his wife. He worked alone in a hut and perfected his instrument to the point where he could "imitate all the inflections of the human voice".
