Conférence du mardi : La Haute-Marne, terre pionnière de photographie

By Samuel MOURIN, heritage conservation officer at the Côtes-d’Armor Departmental Archives.

Recent years have seen the emergence of significant works focusing on the pioneers of photography in the Haute-Marne (an exhibition at the Departmental Archives in 2019, exhibitions dedicated to Girault de Prangey in 2020–2021 organised by some of the very finest museums, a forthcoming monograph on Victor Petit from Langres…). In particular, they have highlighted the importance of the Haute-Marne in the early days of the ‘Eighth Art’. Building on this body of work, this lecture aims to provide an update on the state of research into photographers working in the Haute-Marne, initially confined to the main towns but later spreading to smaller villages, as well as on their work, from the advent of the daguerreotype in 1839 through to the end of the 19th century.

The Chaumont Museum of Art and History and the Departmental Archives (a department of the Haute-Marne Department) invite you to join specialists in history, art history and archaeology to discover the results of their research.
