Far from being a disembodied philosophy, Montaigne’s thinking often draws on physicality.
The role of the body, its observation, and its links with the mind occupy a significant place in the philosopher’s work, particularly in Part III. He writes: ‘[I] hate that inhuman wisdom which seeks to make us disdainful of, and hostile towards, the care of the body. I consider such injustice to be no less a rejection of natural pleasures than taking them too to heart. [...] One must neither pursue nor flee them: one must embrace them.”
Many of the reflections he offers can be linked to certain aspects of yoga.
So… When the wisdom of Montaigne meets that of yoga… When an actor’s voice meets the path of prana… a unique experience emerges: a yoga session (led by a yoga teacher) interwoven with extracts from the Essays (read by an actor).
No prior experience required.
What to bring: a yoga (or gym) mat, a cushion, comfortable clothing and a blanket (for the final relaxation).
