An enclave of Burgundy in the Champagne region, Arc-en-Barrois is an elegant little town nestling in the heart of the countryside. Home to the National Forest Park, it is also the site of the 3,000-hectare nature reserve. If you love peace and nature, you'll feel right at home here.

Golf, cycling, hiking or horse-riding, outdoor activities are king during the summer months. As autumn and winter arrive, the game reserves draw hunters and gourmets alike... Come and taste the truffle, the black diamond of Haute-Marne!

Visit
Arc-en-Barrois

Arc-en-Barrois has a few surprises in store for you, with its elegant stone facades surrounded by nature.

When it comes to heritage, pass by the Maison Renaissance, listed as a Historic Monument. Enter the church of Saint-Martin to admire the 16th-century group of sculptures depicting its entombment.

Cross the English park of the château and try to find the enormous 8.5 m high masonry egg buried in the ground. It was used as an icebox. Climb the three floors of the steam engine dating from 1896.

Get some fresh air on the banks of the Aujon or in the guards' garden. And to make sure you don't get lost, follow the village discovery trail using our OTour app, available free of charge from the Tourist Office.

At the heart of the National Forest Park

For nature lovers, did you know that Arc-en-Barrois is home to the headquarters of France’s newest national park?  The National Forest Park protects the flora and fauna of the deciduous forests of the French plains.

Arc-en-Barrois is home to France's largest integral reserve: 3,000 hectares where no human intervention is allowed for 15 years. This exceptional area boasts unique environmental, natural, cultural and landscape treasures.

If you'd like to go hiking, mountain biking or horse-riding, watch the black storks (the park's symbol), hear the bellowing of the great stags or simply recharge your batteries in unspoilt natural surroundings, you've come to the right place!

Fresh air through outdoor activities

Enjoy the peace and quiet of a remarkably unspoilt setting for a breath of fresh air. Test your swing on the 9-hole golf course at Arc-en-Barrois. This tree-lined course offers a wide range of technical options.

Take a walk along the footpaths that criss-cross the park's forests. Starting in Arc-en-Barrois, the Garenne trail offers a lovely 16km loop.

A number of long-distance routes pass close by: the Via Francigena (at Mormant, 14 km), the historic Joan of Arc trail (at Maranville, 24 km)... To discover on foot, mountain bike or horseback! The equestrian centre offers horse and pony rides, and electric bikes are available from Locebike.

In autumn and winter, the forest, which is particularly rich in game, is ideal for hunting. You can take part in deer and wild boar drives.
